The Chinese container ship "Zheng He" was named and delivered in Shanghai

The 18,000 TEU(standard Container) container ship, named after the great Chinese navigator Zheng He, was completed on Changxing Island in Shanghai on the 12th and delivered to the charterer and operator - CMA CGM Group, one of the three major liner companies in the international shipping industry.

This is another 18,000 TEU container ship following the naming and delivery of the 'CMA CGM Vasco da Gama' by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. on July 27th. Her naming and delivery broke the monopoly of South Korean shipyards in this field, marking that China's shipbuilding industry has entered the ranks of the world in the development, design and construction of container ships, and demonstrating that Shanghai's shipbuilding industry has formed the ability to continuously build and deliver container ships.

The 'Zheng He' is the world's seventh-generation container ship, built by Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Heavy Industry Co., LTD., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., LTD., and designed by the 708th Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. It is hailed as the 'giant' among container ships and has set several new records in China's shipbuilding industry:

First: The length of this aircraft is 399.9 meters, which is 70 meters longer than that of the US Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. It is a ship with a long hull built by China.

Secondly: The loading capacity reaches 18,000 standard containers (TEUs). If they are connected end to end, the length is 108 kilometers. If piled up, the height is 47 kilometers. It is a container ship with a container capacity built by China.

Thirdly, the width of the ship is 54 meters, and the deck area is equivalent to four standard football fields. It is a civilian vessel with a deck area built in China.

Fourth: The depth of the ship is 30.2 meters, the height of the superstructure is 38 meters, and the clear height from the bottom of the ship to the bridge is 65 meters, which is equivalent to the height of a 22-story building. The designed draft is 14.5 meters, the service speed is 22.2 knots, the steel input is approximately 48,000 tons, and it is classified by Classification Society of France. It is a vessel with a clear altitude built by China.

Established in 2007, Changxing Heavy Industry is one of the most powerful container ship manufacturers in China today. It has currently developed a series of models including 18,000 TEU, 9,400 TEU, 8,530 TEU, 5,100 TEU, 4,700 TEU and 4,600 TEU, and has completed and delivered 37 container ships. It is truly the construction center of the world's container ships.

It is learned that on the 9th of this month, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and China COSCO Shipping (Hong Kong) Company have once again joined forces and officially signed a contract for the construction of three 20,000 TEU container ships. The company will build an important milestone in manufacturing container ships following the construction of three 18,000 TEU container ships by CMA CGM Group of France, paving the way for the company's 20,000 TEU container ships and other series of products to enter the international market.
